Busy Week for Engine #2   July 11-18th

The last 7 days have been reminiscent of July 1997 for Engine 2.  Crews have responded on 6 working fires in the past 7 days, in addition to the other "normal" calls.  (All Photos by Mike Schwartzberg except 2-22 box) www.firepix1075.smugmug.com

The fires began on the 11th, when A Shift responded to Dogwood and Ambassador Rd (Box 3-16) to investigate smoke.  This smoke was from a large warehouse fire which had just been dispatched.  Engine 3 reported heavy fire showing.  The fire eventually went 4 alarms, and included several explosions, including a BLEVE from a 2500 lb. LPG tank.  Crews were on scene for approx. 8 hours.

A Shift finished their trick off by assisting Engine 3 with a bedroom fire on Croydon Road off of Liberty Road.  This box (3-2) was struck at 0400 hours on the morning of the 13th.

B Shift had two fires on the evening of the 14th.  1st crews handled a small fire on Silver Creek Rd (Box 2-19) at 1744 hrs.  This fire originated from a homeowner using a torch on the side of his home.  Then at 2017 hours, Box 33-8 for a dwelling fire on Kelox Rd.  Crews encountered fire throughout a 2 story woodframe.  While Engine 2 was on the fire, Medic 2 responded to a Rescue, in which a very large tree fell onto the roof of a SUV, briefly trapping the driver.

D Shift responded on the second alarm for box 13-1.  Engine 13 arrived and found fire showing from a 3 story garden apartment, and finding that the fire had extended to the third floor, requested the second alarm.  D Shift operated for approx. 2 hours with checking for extension, and overhaul.

C Shift responded to a pedestrian struck on I-695 at the Park Heights overpass.  MSP was conducting a lane closure for construction when a woman attempted to cross the beltway in an attempt to get assistance from the trooper with a disabled vehicle.  The woman was taken by land to Shock Trauma with significant injuries.

A Shift again went to work on the 17th, when Box 2-22 was struck for the dwelling fire on North Alter Street.  Engine 2 (Capt. OConnor) could see smoke from the Milford Mill Bridge, and arrived to find a 2 story MOG townhome with Smoke Showing from Side A.  Fire was then found showing from the 2 rear windows of the home.  The fire had exposures on both sides of the house of origin.  Due to aggressive work, the fires were contained with minimal damage to the homes adjacent to the house of origin.

Week of June 15th   Rough week for driving in Pikesville

Crews were challenged with some very strange situations involving cars this week.  A Shift responded to a 1050 at the Pikesville Post Office on Monday morning.  They found an elderly woman had struck another car and then struck a tractor trailer, and was wedged under the trailer.  A Rescue assignment was requested, but was cancelled after access was made to the patient.  On Wednesday, B Shift responded to the 7-11 at Greenwood Rd.  The driver of a vehicle placed the vehicle in the wrong gear, and subsequently renovated the 7-11 into a drive through.

Wednesday, June 11th  A-Shift

Engine 2 responded on Box 3-4 for a report of a dwelling fire on Lawnwood Circle, off of Windsor Mill Rd.  Engine 3 arrived to find heavy fire from the rear, which had extended to the attic.  Engine 3 attempted an interior attack, but was ultimately forced to evacuate the structure.  Engine 2's crew was assigned the initial RIT team.  Crews for on scene for approx. 3 hours, and the home was a complete loss.  FID is investigating.
